In this edition of our magazine I will
introduce another volunteer in our team:
Yasemin from Türkiye. Yasemin brings with
her a rich background in travel, art, and
design. Let’s learn more about her journey
and motivations.
Can you present yourself?
Yasemin: Ciao! I’m Yasemin, a traveller, artist, industrial designer, and sailor from Türkiye. I would consider
myself as a passionate artist and traveller who discovers our world physically and emotionally, for 25 years now.
I love experiencing the unknown and learning about new cultures. As a person deeply interested in art,
aesthetics, and history, I would enjoy seeing well designed furniture as well as seeing a landscape. My
engagement with art and creativity began in childhood. I studied in the fine arts department in high school and
pursued industrial design in my bachelor’s degree. During this time, I participated in the Erasmus+ Exchange program twice, igniting my passion for not just
domestic, but also global travel. To date, I have travelled to 23 countries. As a sailor and a Mediterranean,
passionate about the sea, I hope to meet you on any seaside in the world one day!
What initially motivated you to volunteer with Open Space and engage in youth work?
Yasemin: I have been actively volunteering in Türkiye, both independently and as a member of organisations
such as TEGV and LÖSEV. I taught art, maths, and English to kids, and painting to elderly people, and I loved it!
Being around people who appreciate art and inspiring them to create the unknown gave me incredible joy. When I learned about the Game Changers project, I thought, “That’s exactly me! It perfectly aligns with my
aims, and I can contribute significantly here.” After the first zoom interview for selection, I felt warmly welcomed
and believed that my skills as a designer would be valuable to the team, in tasks such as modelling, designing
posters, and working hands-on. This made me even more excited!
